Andy Chen

Music Director/Voice Instructor

Andy Chen (he/him) is a music director, conductor, and pianist based in New York City. With a focus on live musical theatre and a background in music education and literature, he has worked on numerous productions across the US. Equally at home in opera and contemporary musical theatre, Andy has served as music director, music associate, choir director, podium conductor, pit keyboardist, vocal coach, audition pianist, classical chamber musician, emergency baritone, and middle school music teacher.

Favorite recent credits include music directing LITTLE WOMEN and BRIGHT STAR at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ, and conducting Gilbert and Sullivan’s TRIAL BY JURY at the College Light Opera Company in Falmouth, MA where he has served as an associate conductor for multiple seasons.

Andy holds a BM in Vocal Music Education from the Eastman School of Music and a BA in Creative Writing from University of Rochester, and most recently completed his MM in Music Direction at Arizona State University.

When he is not playing keys or waving a stick, Andy enjoys making coffee and watching cats yawn. He prioritizes fostering welcoming and inclusive creative spaces around the belief that happy artists make better art. www.andychenonkeys.com
